Progress Update
After countless hours in Blender, Substance Painter, and Photoshop, I have finally wrapped up the last piece of card art for the Action cards for Atomic Edge. The last card was the “Forced Labor” card, which gives an extra three resources to whoever plays it. This card is a rarity and can best be used in desperate situations.
Challenges
Finding the time to work on any side project is always a challenge. The Action cards came together over many months of slow, bite-sized accomplishments.
For the “Forced Labor” card specifically, my biggest challenge was deciding on the setting and composition. I initially thought of doing a shot of a factory assembly line packed with workers, but I was afraid I had a few other similar cards like that. While a factory was the first place my mind went, an open-pit min captures the same idea while making the situation feel a little more dirty and desperate.
Next Steps
With the Action cards art complete, it is time to circle back to the United Nations cards. I had completed most of them in an initial pass when I started the art, but the art style and process have been refined, so those art pieces need some love.
Reflections/Insights
- Art takes way longer than you expect. Don’t underestimate the art timeline.
