About Workhorse Game Studio
Workhorse Game Studio is an independent tabletop game studio focused on creating thoughtful, high-stakes board games rooted in tension, difficult decisions, and meaningful player experience. The studio designs games deliberately, with an emphasis on clarity, balance, and depth—projects that are tested rigorously and developed with care from early concept through completion. Many of its games draw on historical themes and survival scenarios, using mechanics and atmosphere together to create experiences that feel weighty, intentional, and earned.
The studio is currently developing two original games: Atomic Edge, a strategic board game about decision-making under uncertainty, and Gales of Winter, a solo survival game centered on endurance, risk, and narrow victories. Both projects emphasize replayability, player agency, and emotional stakes, prioritizing tension and consequence over comfort or optimization. Workhorse Game Studio documents its process openly, sharing playtesting insights and design challenges with a small, engaged community interested in how tabletop games are made.

Icy rain slashes against the window of the ship’s bridge. A low, unsettling metallic creak from the innards of the ship slithers into your ears as the cables outside rattle in the wind. You, the captain of this humble freighter, feel an uneasy knot settle into the pit of your stomach.
